Current Portfolio Options

I think that one of the strongest attributes to this photo, is the concept of color. The photo was black and white, and than I overlapped with another photo that I took of the glare of christmas tree lights. I think that it shows a nice contrast between the colors and the lack thereof, but also the cheer of the lights, and the seriousness in her expression.

The strength of this photo, in my opinion, is the concept. The subject is an attractive teenage girl, but the concept of childhood is all around her. The bubbles are the most obvious form of childhood play, but then you look closer to see she's playing the piano in a lake, which brings the summertime activity of swimming, the youth of playing a keyboard, and the immaturity of dragging a keyboard into a lake all together.

This photo is kind of generic, but if you look closely you realize there's something weird about it. Her reflection is not connected to the boots above the reflection, which I was trying to use to make a statement about that individual. It was meant to imply that she was a little lost at the moment, and felt disconnected with herself, while trying to figure it out (looking at her reflection.)

The photo of the spider and the flower's strength is color contrast. I like it because the background has blacked out completely, leaving the flower alone, and like the spider is guarding his home from any unseen and unwanted visitors.

The color and silouhette in this photo is what sticks out, and why I'm thinking of including it in my portfolio. It's a delicate portrait of the side profile, with the cool colors merging with the warm colors behind her face.

This nature photograph was focused on that one waterdroplet on the middle leaf, which you can vaguely see the reflection of the flowers around it in. The colors jump out as well, but the single thing about this photograph that I like is the macro. You can see the glint in the water droplets, and the veins and hairs in the leaves.

  1. Hey Dominique! I really love all of your images, they're awesome! The three that I like the most are the second (girl with the piano), third (puddle), and fifth (sun). The picture of the girl with the piano is very cool. I love the angle that it is taken at. I also really like how the bubbles are out of focus but she is in focus. I think the picture of the puddle is my favorite! It is a very cool and interesting idea. I like how you edited it and centered it so that most of what you see of the girl is in the puddle. I also really like how the majority of the color is quiet but the red adds a great touch and makes it stand out! In the picture of the sun, I love the lighting. I love lighting in a picture and when it is strong it makes it very cool, like this one! Great job, you're a great photographer!

  2. HI Dominique!
Your photos are really great! fantastic!
My favorite three out of all the photos are the third one (reflection of the girl), forth one (the spider and flower) and the last one (the leaf). What I love about the third picture is how it's simple. Also love that you really only see her feet in the photo but in the reflection you see her but not clearly because in the reflection you can't see her face. The forth one its so intriguing to me I love how the background is blacked out completely and its all focused on the spider and the flower it's so unique! The last one what I liked about it was that it was only focused on the leaf and how the drops of waters on the leaf is so clear. Also how the background is a color of blur. The background contrast really easily with the leaf.
I love all the photos that you took!
    Great job!

  3. Hi!
I noticed from your pictures that you are really good at taking pictures of people and making them into something fine art. which as i know is really hard, and you really hit the nail on the head with the first two pictures! Your photos are really different and unique! The last picture of the leaf is really awesome! I love how you captured the water droplet. the picture with the flower with the black background is really cool because of how much the flower like pops. good job! you rocked it.

  4. Hi Dominique,
Great images. I think the most powerful ones are the first three, you've taken a traditional portrait and started to delve a little deeper providing a narrative and that is what makes it more interesting for me. My favorite is the puddle reflection in the puddle, its nearly monochromatic with the exception of the pops of red from the boots and the shirt. Its clever and takes the viewer a second to figure out what is "off" with it in that the subject and the reflection dont match up. Its a little disconcerting but at the same time absolutely makes sense in this very non-traditional portrait.

The flower and the leaves are beautiful as stand alone images, the leaf has good composition. To be honest I didnt even see the spider in the flower until i read your description. I also appreciate that any digital manipulation you might be doing to your work is very subtle

    Great job!

  5. Dominique!

Hey I really love your look on things. My favorites are the 1st, 2nd, and 4th pictures. I agree with you about the color in the first one. The contrasting saturation is great! What I like the most about the second one is that is shows you have an imagination and you like to experiment with your thoughts. The fourth one really strikes me as a professional photo and it doesn't stop short of being a photo of a flower, it also sends a message and shows great craftsmanship, something that is hard to reach in photography.
